Description: A Semelai boy cleaning the mud off his motorcycle tyres. The Semelai or Semaq Tasik (the lake people) are a sub-group of the Proto-Malay tribe of Peninsular Malaysia. Many reside in the wetland sanctuary of Tasik Bera, (Peninsula Malaysia's largest natural freshwater lake) which has been their home for hundreds of years. Still very aquatic and agriculturally oriented, the Semelai hunt, fish, cultivate crops and gather jungle resources for food.
