Description: Jakun mother and child. The aboriginal Jakun are the second largest tribe of indigenous peoples in Peninsular Malaysia. A sub-group of the Proto-Malay, the Jakun are by tradition hunter-gatherers. Most of these people have now settled in 'kampungs' (villages). Many of them are still animists, believing in 'penunggu' or the presence of spirits in the jungle, dwelling in objects such as large rocks, big trees, rivers or even animals.
